Chandrakhani Pass trek details
Been stationed in Manali for a while, just gave a call to my local friend staying in Rumsu village near Naggar. He asked me to visit him and experience the local fagli festival of their village coming next day, if possible.
So I was on move to meet him as decided, Naggar is 20km from Manali, and Rumsu village where he stays another few kms. To ride bike here is really an experience, less or almost no traffic, fresh air with cool breeze hitting gives a sense of pleasure. Every road has a scenic view to offer, while calm and quietness gives a unique sense of fullness. Stopping on the road for photos is mandatory.

Exploring different valleys here in Himachal Pradesh is ultimate freedom to know how. Rift in monotonous lifestyle in my city, drifted me to carry on such journey.
Finally reached his village by sunset before the dark pitched inn. I was welcomed by his family and was sipping tea with snacks in cosy room. [Not sharing the photos of their house and area to maintain their privacy.]
Delicious dinner was served, cooked in their traditional way. As we were talking few of his local friends joined us for discussion on treks and camps. Sooner they came to a plan to hike towards chandrakhani pass as in to see how much it has snowed and would be fun to play in snow. As they carried on with their discussion i went to bed.
So finally three of us started the trek, me and his two friends.
The altitude of Rumsu village is approximately 2050 meters from where we started the trek. So usually people do this trek in 3 to 4 days depending on their fitness level. And as Rumsu is approachable by road its better to start trek from there.
On trek beautiful landscape greets us with conifer trees and patches of green, brown covering of ground. Trail is not marked so a guide is must for such hidden treks.

As we climbed further, patches of white and brown ground started to evolve around us.

Snow started showing before even we had not reached camp one. As we gained 500 meters to reach camp, took us two hours to get this kind of view.

Camp is situated in forested area, we kept moving upwards as we wanted to reach high as possible. First week of march seems to have a heavy blanket of snow. Slowly moving through snow, finding path is little tricky and time consuming. Still we managed to climb another 600 meters all the way in deep snow up to waist at some spots. Took us another two hours to reach an area where camp two is placed at Naya tappru. It was 2:30 pm and had reached a height of 3100m. So we had packed lunch given to us. We also had to return before dark to Rumsu as we had not carried any tents and other material with us.

We spend an hour there clicking photos and enjoying snow.

Amazing views of Dhauladhar range and Pir Panjal range are worth looking. It was 3:30pm so we had to rush moving downwards before sunset. Decending to back to Rumsu village took is another two hours.

Finally reaching the village we got to see the local flok dance, understanding about the local culture in village, I headed back to Manali.
